My intent as a designer for this Arizona logo is to distill the state's vast and varied identity into a form that feels both iconic and human. Every element serves a purpose: the sun conveys warmth and direction; the saguaro cactus reflects resilience and rootedness; the rock formations ground the design in Arizona's geological heritage, and the wave pattern connects viewers to the timeless artistry of nature, sculpted through wind, water, and time. The goal is not just to depict landmarks, but to evoke the feeling of being there - the quiet awe under a desert sunset, the sense of scale in a canyon, the stillness of open space. I wanted a design that speaks to locals with pride and invites outsiders to discover. It's about capturing both the endurance of the land and the human spirit that thrives alongside it.

Arizona citizens say one of the best things about Arizona is the beautiful sunsets we get to experience. I created an Arizona sunset with the Phoenix bird in the center of the sunrise spreading its wings of fire. I included the mountain landscape with Tucson's Mission San Xavier del Blog cathedral and desert cactus to show the beautiful desert life. My goal was to capture the beauty of the desert landscape and include the Spanish influence of the cathedral to show the rich Mexican history that is Tucson's historical district .
Entry #17
For this design I placed the iconic Xavier del Boc cathedral in Historic downtown Tucson to represent the rich history of Arizona. I placed the Phoenix Bird in the icon to convey the city of Phoenix and to represent the resilience of our citizen's, especially when it comes to the heat. To convey our beautiful desert I added lines for mountains as well as a. cactus

The logo featuring a sun encircled by the project management cycle is a powerful symbol for the PMI Arizona Chapter, reflecting both regional identity and professional purpose. The sun, a defining element of Arizona’s landscape and culture, represents warmth, energy, and illumination—qualities that mirror the chapter’s mission to enlighten and empower project managers and those seeking to become project managers across the state. By placing the project management cycle around the sun, the logo visually communicates the integration of global project management principles with local values and challenges. The cycle—typically encompassing initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closing—surrounding the sun suggests that project management is a constant, dynamic force that touches every corner of Arizona. Whether in aerospace hubs, mining towns, renewable energy sites, or urban tech corridors, the sun’s rays metaphorically extend across all territories, symbolizing inclusivity, and statewide impact. This design reinforces the chapter’s commitment to serving diverse communities and industries, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation throughout Arizona.
